Attendance Policy

Daily Period Attendance Program

1.  Overview

The purpose of this program is to improve attendance at school and thereby help improve a students chance of success in school. Each student is expected to attend school daily and be on time each class. A student accumulating 16 policy absences in a semester may by in danger of receiving an “F” in that class. Parents will be notified about every class or all day absence. Parents may call the Attendance Office (714) 999-3615 or (714)999-3797 any time between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM to get information regarding absences. All absences will count as Policy Absences and be applied toward the maximum of 16 per class, except for the following reasons:

 

  • Medical or dental appointments verified in writing by the doctor’s office
  • Injury or illness verified in writing by the doctor’s office
  • School activity (field trip, counselor appointment, etc.)
  • Religious holiday
  • Death of an immediate family member

 

When a student is absent, please call the school the day of the absence or send a note to the Attendance Office before 8:05 a.m. on the day tie/she returns to school, Students will assume responsibility for making sure that this contact is accomplished and for getting the appropriate readmit slip from the Attendance Office before school begins. Absences must be cleared within 24 hours from the time the student returns to school. If it is not cleared within this time period it will be handled as truancy.

 

2. Policy Steps

If a student accumulates Policy Absences as outlined above, the following steps will occur:

  • 5 Policy Absences in a single class — The student/parent may receive written notice from the Assistant Principal.
  • 10 Policy Absences in a single class — The Assistant Principal may conduct a conference with the student, parent and teacher.
  • 15 Policy Absences in a single class — Alternative placement conference maybe held, or:
    • Referral to Student Success Team (SST) and Discipline/Attendance Review Team (DART).
    • Referral to Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).

 

If a student cuts four or more classes in one day, he/she will be recorded as TRUANT. CLASS CUTS will be handled as follows:

  • 1st Offense:     1 hour detention, home contact by teacher,
  • 2nd Offense:     Referral, home contact by A.P.
  • 3rd Offense:     Referral, Possible On Campus Suspension (OCS), home contact by A.P.
  • 4th Offense:     Referral, OCS, conference with student/parent/A.P.

 

 

3. Tardies

Any unexcused tardy greater than 30 minutes will be recorded as a class cut. Any student that arrives to school after 8:40 AM must report to the attendance office for a pass to class. All other tardies will be dealt with as followed:

  • 1st Offense:     Teacher Warning.
  • 2nd Offense:     Teacher assigns 60 minute detention and parent contact.
  • 3rd Offense:     Teacher assigns 60 minute detention and parent contact.
  • 4th Offense:     Referral to Assistant Principal, parent contact.
  • 5th Offense:     Referral to Assistant Principal, parent contact.
  • 6th Offense:     Referral to Assistant Principal, parent contact, OCS and referral to DART.
  • 7th Offense:     Referral to Assistant Principal, parent contact, refers to SST/SARB.

 

Please do not deliver balloons for students, as they are a class disruption and will not be delivered to the student until the end of the school day.
